The agreement paved the way for a resumption of talks between Israelis and Palestinians with the aim of creating two states, he said, calling it the “only option” to achieve peace in the region. Representatives of the Palestinian government reacted angrily to the agreement and President Mahmoud Abbas ordered the Palestinian ambassador to the United Arab Emirates to return home. According to Al-Jazeera, other leaders and groups, including the Islamic Jihad movement in Palestine, unanimously rejected the agreement. Mustafa Barghouti, head of the Palestinian National Initiative, said they were not surprised by the recent actions taken by the United Arab Emirates and the fact that the Emiratis had never attempted to fight Israel. He added that this could encourage other nations to ignore the Palestinian issue. The head of the Palestine Liberation Front, Wasel Abu Yousef, said the agreement would only give Israel greater influence over its occupation. ANP Social Affairs Minister Ahmed Majdalani said they did not know the agreement in advance and that the UAE was bartering the others, while unilaterally changing the Arab world`s approach to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In the months leading up to the agreement, Israel had secretly collaborated with the United Arab Emirates to combat the COVID 19 pandemic. European media reported that Mossad was discreetly sourcing health supplies from the Gulf states. Benjamin Netanyahu, Prime Minister of Israel, announced at the end of June 2020 that the two countries were cooperating in the fight against coronavirus and that the mossad leader, Yossi Cohen, had visited the VaE several times. However, a few hours later, the United Arab Emirates seemed to downplay this situation by revealing that it was simply an agreement between private companies and not at the state level. “While the peace decision remains fundamentally a Palestinian-Israeli decision, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed`s courageous initiative, by banishing the spectre of annexation of Palestinian countries, has given more time to the chances of peace through the two-state solution,” Gargash said in a series of tweets. The statement said Israel would suspend the declaration of sovereignty over the territories defined in Trump`s peace plan for the region and would focus on strengthening relations with other Arab and Muslim countries. UAE Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash defended the agreement. Abu Dhabi`s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nayan`s decision to normalize relations with Israel reflects “urgent realism,” he said. Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi welcomed the agreement and praised the parties` efforts to “achieve prosperity and stabilization in our region.” He also personally congratulated the emirate of Abu Dhabi`s crown prince, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, on the agreement. Protests and demonstrations have taken place in many cities in Pakistan to condemn the agreement between the United Arab Emirates and Israel. Trump made a statement from the Oval Office, in which he said: “After 49 years, Israel and the United Arab Emirates will completely normalize their diplomatic relations.
